The ERP system should not only contain all items and their item structure, but also – at least with the release – formats derived from the models, to be published in the ERP system (e.g., technical drawings, Neutral formats or 3D-display formats such as 3D-PDF).
Please note that 3D models created with PTC Creo or another authoring system, or formats derived from them, consist of larger files that take longer to transfer. In addition, generating derived formats is time-consuming.
To avoid long wait times and interruptions for the end user, the ReleaseEngine takes over this task and takes care of these steps in the background. The interface IFConneX creates jobs for converting and transferring the neutral formats to SAP on demand or depending on the process.
In the ReleaseEngine Cockpit, an administrator tracks the execution, can intervene in the event of an error and restart processes that have remained stuck.
If, for example, your ERP system is temporarily unavailable, the job will stop running and can be processed at a later time. This way, the ReleaseEngine stabilizes your system landscape if one of the systems should not be available sometime.
The ReleaseEngine process, depending on the task, accesses Creo, Windchill (IFConneX) and the ERP system and can generate or update data or files there.
The ReleaseEngine is therefore not only suited for standard tasks in conjunction with IFConneX, but can also handle other recurring tasks for background processing. This makes the ReleaseEngine a universal background processing engine.

The ReleaseEngine is a WEB based server application with a modular structure. In the cockpit module, basic functionalities such as JOB-Engine, WEB-UI, user configuration, database and service management are provided.
The base module permits the processing of jobs. Each base module provides a processing channel. One or more base modules (processing channels) can be operated with one cockpit. This way, different job types can be separated or individual locations can be equipped with an individual processing channel.
This module provides access to SAP. All important SAP functions can be called by the ReleaseEngine. This module does not replace the IFConneX ERP interface from Windchill.
A service that calls events in the SAP system in order to execute a Windchill function asynchronous under the control of the ReleaseEngine. This module allows the transfer of information from the SAP system to Windchill.
This module creates access to PTC Windchill.
Allows you to generate 2D Neutral formats such as TIF and 2D PDF from PTC Windchill PDMLink stored PTC Creo parametric drawings. This module allows you to stamp the Neutral formats.
The module is used to extract 3D Neutral formats such as 3D-PDF from PTC Creo Parametric models stored in PTC Windchill PDMLink. It generates viewing formats such as 3D PDF, PVZ-STL or PVZ, for example.
With the export module, exchange formats such as STEP, DXF, IGES and SLP can be converted from PTC Creo parametric drawings and models stored in PTC Windchill. The Neutral formats can be stored either in SAP or on a network drive as required.
Allows the download and transfer of data stored in PTC Windchill to SAP. If required, 2D formats (TIF, PDF) can be stamped.
With the Office module, Microsoft Office files can be converted to PDF format and stored in SAP.
With the number generator module, the designer can generate an item number according to defined business rules either in PTC Creo Parametric on first save or from PTC Windchill by invoking a menu. If necessary, the objects are renamed according to the item number.
The JT module, allows PTC Creo Parametric models to be converted to the JT format via an external JT converter; this is an add-on purchase.
The digital signature module can digitally sign PDF files. Depending on the requirements, third-party software is integrated into the process.
